Declaration on Open and Transparent Government
From Open NZ Wiki
The Ministerial Committee on Government ICT (chaired by Bill English) requested a Cabinet Paper expanding on Direction 2: Support Open and Transparent Government, from the Directions and Priorities for Government ICT. OpenNZ was asked to provide specific input into this process, interweaving with consultation processes inside government.
[edit] What was OpenNZ's role?
Government asked the open data community to provide input into the Principles for Managing Data and Information held by the New Zealand Government, and to help write the Declaration. OpenNZ was also asked to help provide evidence for the benefits of open data (including case studies, stats, success stories etc), and ideas about what should go into the subsequent programme of guidance and advice.
[edit] What happened?
During April-June 2011 people from OpenNZ:
- Helped draft the Principles on this wiki
- Participated in a workshop with government officials on the Principles
- Helped draft the Declaration
- In partnership with GOVIS, ran the Open Government Data Day, to help people in government learn more about releasing data, and to provide input into the Open Government Information and Data Work Programme
